SULLIVAN CAVE TRIP - JULY 1986

Many formations in caves take thousands or hundreds of thousands of years to form. As such they are priceless and irreplaceable. So that others may be able to enjoy the cave...

NEVER break any formations!

NEVER take anything out of the cave except trash!

This appears to be a huge slab of rock that dropped off the ceiling with a one to two foot gap. Small formations have started to form between the ceiling and the slab of rock. Note the caver in the background for size reference.

Strange little column.

View of the ceiling with stalactites forming. Note the bright white dots on the bottom of the stalactites. These are water droplets that leave behind minerals that make the stalactite grow. Whenever there is water on formations, it means they are growing. Never touch them as the oil from your hand will not allow the minerals to stick to the formation...effectively killing the formation.

Note the wet formations. They are still actively forming and growing.

Strange formations growing at an angle. Formations usually form vertically because of gravity.
